
David McKay
David is a director and co-owner of Totem Studio (previously Trengrove Architects) He has over 30 years’ experience in residential, commercial and healthcare architecture. During this time he has worked on a wide range of projects including a great number of health care developments as well as private residences including large scale residential and retirement and aged care developments David has amassed considerable expertise in leading consultant teams, running user groups, design team and site meetings, and in all aspects of contract administration.

Ian Cattoën-Gilbert
Ian is an NZRAB registered architect with experience both here and overseas. Prior to joining Totem in 2016 Ian worked for a number of well known New Zealand practices. Before coming to Christchurch to aide in its post quake rebuild he practiced in Edmonton Canada after first starting out in his home town of Wellington. He has a depth of experience in a number of typologies including, single residences and multi unit apartments along with Retail/Commercial, Sports facilities and Healthcare. Ian is a logical thinker and problem solver looking in every challenge for architectural solutions that ultimately benefit the client & project. Ian became a director of the practice in 2019 and he values building strong client-architect relationships believing that every project must be tangibly unique to its brief client and site.
